to the website for the Building Permit Technicians of Central Ohio.
Our Purpose
The Permit Technicians’ purpose is to educate, support and network those working in administrative staff positions
of building code enforcement.
Our purpose is achieved by:
- Sharing ideas and resources to maintain a well organized and
efficient office.
- Providing a clearinghouse of useful information through a permit
technician use
group available on the web. (We currently have 27 members
that share useful information “live” via our web based use group).
- Provide an opportunity to learn more about becoming an International
Code Council (ICC) Certified Permit Technician.
How did we get started?
Central Ohio Code Officials Association (COCOA) has a variety of committees. Permit Technicians is the newest committee
of COCOA.
The Permit Technicians’ first quarterly committee meeting was
held on January 18, 2007, at the ICC Ohio Resource Center in Westerville.
Almost 30 administrative staff members from various village, city,
county and state building departments, zoning authorities, and community development organizations came together
to discuss building code issues. Currently we have 46 registered members enrolled in our Permit Tech Group.
What we do
Our goals are to:
- Hold quarterly meetings at various offices around Central Ohio.
- Develop educational, code consistency, membership and public
relations sub-committees.
- Build relationships with other permit technicians around Central
Ohio to improve effectiveness and customer service.
- Encourage growth in membership of the Permit Technicians Committee
and information on becoming an ICC Certified Permit Technician.
How can you join?
Membership to our committee is free and open to any administrative staff member in Ohio working to help enforce
building codes.

If interested in joining, or just attending a quarterly meeting to see what we are all about, please contact:
